Vita Coco’s nutritious and hydrating, natural drinks are enjoyed by consumers around the world. The company has grown its business in recent periods and has ambitious plans for further expansion. To ensure a steady stream of coconut water from far-flung tropical locations throughout this period of growth, Vita Coco’s Senior Director of Operations, Dominic Mills, set out to evaluate a new solution for the company’s supply chain planning requirements.
Mills’ objective was to replace Vita Coco’s existing supply chain planning system, which was being used alongside multiple, disconnected spreadsheets, with an efficient, scalable and user-friendly solution, that would also provide advanced reporting options. Reporting requirements are becoming increasingly complex both internally and externally, but the major driver behind the decision to implement a new solution, was the need to enable swift responses to rapidly changing and unpredictable markets.
“Fast turnarounds on end-to-end planning can mean the difference between being out of stock and fulfilling all our customer orders,” explains Mills. “COVID-19 introduced additional variability and complexity to our supply and demand planning, in a big way. So speeding up our planning cycle from monthly to weekly was absolutely critical.”
After considering several vendors, Vita Coco chose Vuealta’s Supply Chain Planning-as-a-Service solution. Purpose built on market leading connected planning platform, Anaplan, Vuealta provides a best-in-class, industry standard, rapidly deployable application.
“We chose Vuealta because they gave us a really good balance of everything we wanted. The solution is easy to use and has a solid reporting system. From the start, we could tell the Vuealta team had great technical ability. They could demonstrate examples that spoke to our actual experience and were very relevant to our business. We’ve always felt we’re in the right hands.”
Now, Vita Coco staff across the globe can access, share, and analyse planning and supply data quickly and efficiently. This enables prompt decisions and nimble, responsive planning. Internal collaboration and alignment has also improved, helping to break down internal silos.
“When you’ve got the right system in place, and you’re working with data you can trust to be accurate, then suddenly, you’re breaking down other barriers that tend to appear in companies as they grow,” Mills said. “This project and the work we have done with Vuealta has helped us bring different departments closer together. We now all speak the same language. We’re all talking about exactly the same financial numbers and everyone’s on the same page.”
